Haydon Artists' Society goes from strength to strength. and this was
shown at our belated AGM in November when we had 28 members present.
It was good to talk about the future and see that the aims of the society
are still on track.
Our meetings on Thursdays are well attended with an average of 23 members
coming along. The Tuesday group is proving very popular with the membership
up to 14. We have decided thath the limit will be 20 because of the
size of the room. Of course if we have more people wanting to join then
we will have to consider what can be done as we do not want to turn
anyone away.
We held our pre Christmas exhibition in the North Swindon Library. The
paintings were very varied and everyone thought the standard was excellent.
It’s interesting to see how we have all developed and changed
over the past three years. Unfortunately, for the first time, we had
a painting stolen. The small painting of a pot of geraniums was very
pretty and it was the first time the artist had had her paintings framed
and exhibited so it was upsetting for all of us.
The Manor in Haydon Wick was the venue for our Christmas Dinner when
27 of our members enjoyed a really good meal. This was the third year
we have met for a Christmas celebration and once again it was a great
success.
In February we are having a day workshop when Carol Kibble, who is
a pastelartist living in Goatacre, will be showing us how to paint portraits.
We have had so much interest shown in this workshop that we are asking
Carol to do more workshops for us.
We are very excited about our web page which has been designed by one
of our members, Paula Dagnall. It is an interesting site as it gives
information about the groupand an insight to what happens at our meetings.
We have a section which changes regularly and features a different member
who gives an insight into their work and tells how they started painting.
We hope this will encourage other people to have a go.
Now we are looking forward to a new year and are planning to make it
as interesting as we can. Some of us are considering spending a week
at the Marlborough summer school and others thinking of going on day
workshops to improve techniques and try new ways of working. What ever
we do we are sure to continue to enjoy our painting at our weekly meetings
and hope that we will have new members who will come along and join
us.
Meetings are on Thursdays from 7pm to 9pm at North Swindon Library
and on Tuesdays from 10am to 12 noon at the Haydon Wick Council Offices.
Beginners are always welcome and although these are not classes there
is usually some one who will help to get you started.
